Java IO Stream

The Java IO package, also known as java.io.*, provides a set of classes to work with input stream, output stream and file system. There are two types of IO stream in Java.

Byte streams - These streams are used to read/write raw bytes serially from/to an external device. All the byte streams are derived from the abstract super classes InputStream and OutputStream.

Character streams - These streams are used to read/write characters from/to an external device. All the character streams are derived from the abstract super classes Reader and Writer.
